News and notes from around the country:

- Derrick Favors, Scout.com's top-ranked high school senior in the country, has chosen to attend Georgia Tech next season. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

- Louisiana Tech forward Kenny Cooper, a former Oklahoma State transfer, has been kicked off the team. (Shreveport Times)

- Memphis sophomore forward Jeff Robinson is leaving the Tigers and has officially enrolled at Seton Hall. He will be eligible to play for the Pirates in the second semester of next season. (ZagsBlog)

- George Washington sophomore Xavier Alexander has "voluntarily withdrawn" from the university. He started 12 of 13 games for the Colonials this season. (The GW Hatchet)

- Georgetown hit 59 percent of its attempts last night against Syracuse, and the Orange offense was never able to get going en route to an 88-74 victory for the Hoyas. (Syracuse Post-Standard, Syracuse Post-Standard)

- Against Syracuse, Georgetown showed toughness and grit that will be needed throughout the rest of the Big East season. (Washington Post)

- After Boston College's 20-point loss to Wake Forest -- the Eagles' third straight home defeat -- its win at North Carolina a week and a half ago seems like a distant memory. (Boston Globe)

- Florida head coach Billy Donovan won his 300th game last night on the road against Auburn. (Gainesville Sun)

- After Mike Tisdale scored 24 points to help lead Illinois over Michigan, Wolverines' head coach John Beilein said that Tisdale did "a Pittsnogle on us." (Chicago Tribune)

- Maryland blew a 17-point lead in the second half as Miami (Fl.) came back to defeat the Terrapins by two. (Baltimore Sun)

- Despite wins over Texas and Oklahoma, Arkansas is now 0-2 in the SEC after losing its second straight road game, this time to Mississippi. (Northwest Arkansas Times)

- Texas A&M proved it is still a force to be reckoned with in the Big 12 after its win over Baylor last night. (Bryan-College Station Eagle)

- Chinemulu Elonu and the Aggies can't rest on their laurels, though, as they face Blake Griffin and Oklahoma on Saturday. (Houston Chronicle)
