Legion Returning to UK?; Oliver Transferring; Pocius Done
Washington sophomore guard Adrian Oliver has announced that he is leaving the Huskies' program and will transfer to another school. He informed coach Lorenzo Romar before practice on Tuesday that he wanted to go closer to home. "I know I see myself as a big-time player in this league," Oliver told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "I didn't see myself being that sort of player in this program." Oliver confirmed that Pac-10 rivals California and Stanford are among the schools pursuing him. Romar said Oliver had trouble adjusting to life away from home in Modesto, Calif. "He thought being away from home was something that he could adjust to, but being here has just been too difficult for him, being away from his family," Romar told the Seattle Times. With Oliver gone, only one of four players remain from Romar's 2006 recruiting class. He averaged 3.4 points per game this season.
Duke junior guard Martynas Pocius will miss the rest of the season in order to recover from ankle surgery. He injured his left ankle in a win over Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 25 and has not played since. He will likely undergo surgery in January, allowing time for the swelling to go down. Pocius is expected to receive a medical redshirt and return next season. "We are 100 percent behind Marty," coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement. "This is a tough break for him and for the whole team. He worked extremely hard over the summer to be ready for this season and was making a steady contribution to the team. His presence in practice and in games will be missed." Pocius was averaging 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game prior to the injury.
