April 4th News and Notes, Part Two
- According to the Tucson Citizen, Arizona sophomore forward Marcus Williams will announce his NBA Draft intentions at a press conference on Thursday. The All-Pac-10 performer is widely regarded as a first-round pick, but is also considered as a player that could use another year in college. Williams averaged 16.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
- CBS Sportsline’s Greg Parrish gives his Preseason Top 25 (and one) for the 2007-2008 season. He has UCLA #1 and the two-time national champs at #26.
- According to Andy Katz of ESPN.com, Bowling Green has hired former Seton Hall coach Louis Orr to fill their head coaching vacancy. Orr was 80-69 in five seasons with Seton Hall. He replaces Dan Dakich, who went 13-18 this past season.
- ESPN’s Andy Katz gives his Pre-Preseason Top 25 for the 2007-2008 season. He has Kansas at the top spot, and does not include Florida in the Top 25 or the next 20 that he lists.
- According to the Journal and Courier, Purdue’s Chris Lutz and Jonathan Uchendu will transfer after the school year because they are both homesick. Lutz was the leading three-point shooter in the Big Ten this past season, hitting 47.2 percent of his long-range shots. He averaged 6.1 points per game. Lutz said, “This is something I've been thinking about for a long time . . . I realized that being away from my parents -- my dad would come to my practices and mom and dad attended all my games -- is something I really miss.” Uchendu, who averaged 1.8 points per game, echoed Lutz’s statements: “It comes down to the fact I want to be closer to my home and family.”
- Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News gives his “Ridiculously Early Top 25 For Next Season”. He has Kansas #1 and neither Florida or Ohio State in the Top 25.
- According to the Associated Press, Indiana freshman Xavier Keeling is leaving the team and fellow frosh, guard Joey Shaw, is also considering transferring to another school. Coach Kelvin Sampson said, “[Keeling] just told me he wanted to play a little closer to home.” Keeling averaged 1.8 points per game, and Shaw scored 4.5 a contest.
