Every national championship team has that one player that they can go to with the game on the line and he will come through in the clutch. Florida was an anomaly with balanced distribution the past two seasons, but someone who can score down the stretch is an important ingredient in March. Guys that can get baskets in the closing seconds are imperative for successful teams. Here are the top 10 go-to-guys in the country:
1. Tyler Hansbrough, North Carolina: One of the most dominant players in college basketball on the offensive end – plus, he knocks down free-throws.
2. Blake Griffin, Oklahoma: He is nearly impossible to defend once he gets the ball near the basket; will only get better.
3. A.J. Price, Connecticut: The Huskies’ offense stagnated at times last season, but Price alleviates that problem late in games.
4. Stephen Curry, Davidson: If anyone watched the NCAA Tournament, there really isn’t much need to explain this ranking.
5. Jeremy Pargo, Gonzaga: His combination of strength and quickness makes him unstoppable when driving to the basket.
6. Robert Vaden, UAB: His ability to knock down shots from nearly anywhere on the court makes him the consummate go-to-guy.
7. Dominic James, Marquette: Although he is not as dominant as he was during his freshman year, he still gets where he wants when it matters.
