Top 12 Frontcourts
Although the common belief is that guards win in March, teams with just guards do not usually make it to the Final Four. Rebounding and post presence are also keys to success. The following teams have the best frontcourts heading into March:
1. Stanford: Brook Lopez is easily one of the best players in college basketball this year, while brother Robin is a force at both ends. Lawrence Hill is capable of big numbers.
2. Georgetown: This might be the toughest frontcourt to match-up against. Roy Hibbert is outstanding, DaJuan Summers provides an inside-outside threat, and Patrick Ewing Jr. has improved.
3. Louisville: One of the deepest and most talented groups in the country. Terrence Williams can do-it-all, while David Padgett is one of the best passers around. Earl Clark and Derrick Caracter are supremely talented.
4. Kansas: Darrell Arthur and Darnell Jackson are often overshadowed by the deep perimeter unit that the Jayhawks have, but they are both very solid scorers and rebounders.
5. Connecticut: The Huskies have arguably more height than any team in the country. Hasheem Thabeet is developing; Jeff Adrien is a double-double threat every night; and Stanley Robinson is a tough match-up.
6. UCLA: The Bruins would be on this list if it was just Kevin Love up front. Throw in future pro Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, as well as Lorenzo Mata and Alfred Aboya, and it just improves.
7. Kansas State: The Wildcats might have the most talented frontcourt duo in the country in Michael Beasley and Bill Walker. They are both outstanding, but will it be enough?
8. Pittsburgh: Heading into the year, not many people were sure of what to expect from the Pitt frontcourt. However, Sam Young and DeJuan Blair might be the best combo in their region.
9. Saint Joseph’s: An underrated trio out of the Atlantic-10. Pat Calathes is a match-up nightmare, while Ahmad Nivins and Robert Ferguson can score in a variety of ways.
10. Notre Dame: The Irish have one of the most improved frontcourts in the country, with Luke Harangody dominating around the rim and Rob Kurz providing an inside-outside threat.
11. Boise State: One of the best frontcourts you've never heard of. Reggie Larry and Matt Nelson are both outstanding, while Tyler Tiedemann has provided another dimension at forward.
12. Clemson: The Tigers are known for their pressing and running, but don't overlook the tandem of Trevor Booker and James Mays up front. Both are very difficult to play against.
