Road to Selection Sunday Update

With only two days left in the season, the NCAA Tournament field is starting to clear up somewhat, and the bubble teams have, for the most part, separated themselves from each other. Several teams that were on the bubble going into yesterday solidified their place in the Big Dance with key wins, while others lost games they needed to win in order to get a bid. Let's take a look at who helped their chances for an invitation and whose hopes took a hit in their quest for a bid.

Teams that helped themselves:
Indiana- Hoosiers are now a lock after beating Wisconsin to reach the semi-finals of the Big Ten Tournament. Have won five in a row.
Texas A&M- Likely solidified their spot in the Big Dance after their annihilation of Colorado in the Big 12 Tournament. Eight wins in a row for the Aggies.
California- Double-overtime win over USC gave Golden Bears a spot in the Pac-10 title game--and a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
UAB- Locked up their invitation to the Field of 65 with their victory over UTEP to go to the Conference-USA title game.

Teams that hurt themselves:
Maryland- Getting dominated by Boston College was not the best way of showing that they deserve a bid. Terrapins are simply not that good without Chris McCray.
Colorado- In what might have been a winner-take-all game vs. Texas A&M, Buffaloes got destroyed. As a result, they are headed to the NIT.
Alabama- Could now be on the bubble after losing to Kentucky in the SEC Tournament. RPI of 55 is very dangerous.
